It achieves speeds of up to 250,000 revolutions per minute! Apart from that, it is subjected to tremendous loads and has to withstand large temperature differences: as the turbine is driven by a hot stream of exhaust gases, temperatures of 600 degrees prevail inside the turbine housing, with only some 100 degrees on the pressure-compressor side. Before the air enters the combustion chambers, it is cooled down by the intercooler.
